Anthropic Launches Claude Code for Web — Bringing AI Coding Agents to Every Developer’s Browser

The viral AI coding tool “Claude Code” is now available on the web, signaling Anthropic’s big move to make autonomous coding assistants more accessible to developers worldwide.

Anthropic has officially rolled out a web app for its fast-growing AI coding assistant, Claude Code, expanding its reach beyond command-line users. The new interface allows developers to create and manage multiple AI coding agents directly from their browsers.

The update is available to subscribers on Anthropic’s $20 Pro plan and its $100 and $200 Max plans. Users can now access Claude Code on claude.ai via the “Code” tab or through the Claude iOS app. The move marks a major step in Anthropic’s plan to meet developers “where they are” — on both web and mobile platforms.

Previously limited to a command-line interface (CLI), Claude Code’s web expansion aims to simplify the creation of AI coding agents and boost adoption. According to TechCrunch, the product has already seen a 10x growth in users since May and now contributes over $500 million in annualized revenue for Anthropic.

Anthropic’s product manager, Cat Wu, told TechCrunch that Claude Code’s popularity lies in both its powerful AI models and its intuitive, developer-friendly experience. “We try to sprinkle in some fun where we can,” Wu said, hinting at the company’s efforts to make coding more engaging. She added that while the terminal remains Claude Code’s “home base,” web and mobile access are key to scaling the tool globally.

Claude Code represents the next generation of AI-assisted programming — evolving from simple autocomplete functions to autonomous coding agents capable of managing entire workflows. Wu revealed that nearly 90% of Claude Code’s own code is written by Anthropic’s AI models, a bold testament to the company’s internal adoption of its own technology.

Still, not all developers are fully sold. Some studies show that engineers using AI tools like Claude Code or Cursor can be slower on complex tasks, often due to time spent prompting and verifying AI outputs. Yet, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei remains confident, predicting that AI will eventually write up to 90% of software code — a forecast that, if realized, could transform the global developer landscape.

For African developers, the rise of AI coding tools like Claude Code could mean faster prototyping, leaner dev teams, and new opportunities to compete globally — provided local ecosystems invest in training and infrastructure to keep up.
